The National Scouts Team is changing the way our first aid training (module 10a/10b) is validated. Many of our volunteers will undertake a course run by a Scouts team, but we know some volunteers will have attended externally delivered courses.
The Scouts have asked us to get in touch with all our volunteers who may have completed an external First Aid course (for example run by an employer, or St.John’s / British Red Cross etc.) Our records from Compass indicate that you might be a volunteer who falls into this category.
The Scouts curriculum requires all our volunteers to learn about paediatric First Aid, as well as covering child CPR, sepsis and dental injuries. This isn’t always covered on externally run courses, and the Scouts recognise that we need to make sure all our volunteers have the best possible knowledge to deal with potential First Aid incidents.
To help us support you in the best possible way, we need you to complete the form below by 11 September 2024. The questions on this form will help us understand what support might be needed to make sure you have the knowledge you need to perform First Aid as a Scouts volunteer, and if our County First Response Team can assist in any way.
Any course that is set by a regulated body, and covers the Scouts First Response criteria, recognition, and length requirements can be considered as a suitable alternative to a First Response course. A regulated body is organisations such as the British Red Cross, St John Ambulance, or another training provider which is Ofqual or Qualsafe registered. For more details of other providers of qualifications (including Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) check the Joint Council for Qualifications.
