Adventure Sport Degree Opportunity for Young People in Scouts

Date: 19th May 2026 Author: Lucy Horsman

Many young people in Scouts find that their love for the outdoors leads to ambitions for a future career or further study.

Askham Bryan College has shared details of its Foundation Degree in Adventure Sport, a course designed for young people who thrive in outdoor environments and want to build practical skills, leadership experience and industry knowledge.

This could be an excellent option for Explorers, Network members or young adults who are currently considering their next steps after sixth form or college.

Building leadership skills through outdoor learning

The degree combines academic learning with hands-on experience, helping students develop confidence while gaining valuable technical skills in outdoor settings.

Areas of study include expedition planning, risk management, group leadership and activity delivery, all closely matching Scouts experiences.

Future pathways beyond the course

Alongside developing practical outdoor skills, the course also supports progression into a range of future opportunities. This includes careers within the outdoor sector, leadership roles, uniformed public services and further specialist training.

For those looking to continue making an impact through adventure, leadership and service, this degree offers a clear and exciting pathway forward.

If you know a young person who may be interested, please take a look at the attached course flyer here and share this opportunity across your groups, districts, and networks.
