Young people from 1st Embsay and Eastby Scouts have taken on an impressive fundraising challenge as they prepare for an exciting international adventure in 2027.

On 9 May, 17 Scouts from the group visited High Adventure in Cowling to take part in a sponsored climbing challenge, with one ambitious goal in mind: to collectively climb the height of the North Face of the Eiger. Standing at an incredible 1,800 metres (5,900ft), the Eiger is one of the most iconic mountains in the Swiss Alps and a fitting challenge for a group with their sights set on Switzerland.

By the end of the session, the group had completed more than 225 climbs between them and successfully smashed their target in just under three hours. Their hard work and enthusiasm also helped raise a significant amount of money towards the cost of their upcoming trip.

For 1st Embsay and Eastby, the trip will be particularly special as it will be the group’s first-ever international visit. Established as a new Scout group in 2022, the section has grown quickly and continues to offer young people opportunities to challenge themselves, learn new skills and experience adventure.

This latest fundraising success highlights the commitment of both the Scouts and the volunteers supporting them.
