1st Holgate Squirrels Learn About Local Heroes at Acomb Fire Station

Young people from 1st Holgate Scout Group, part of York Ebor District, North Yorkshire Scouts, recently enjoyed an exciting visit to Acomb Fire Station as part of their latest Squirrel session.

The visit gave Squirrels the opportunity to learn more about the important role firefighters play in keeping local communities safe. During the session, they explored the fire station, met members of the fire service and discovered more about what happens during emergencies and day-to-day operations.

The experience gave young people valuable insight into the people who support their local area while also providing plenty of fun and engaging learning opportunities.

Progress towards the Local Superheroes badge

The visit also supported the group’s progress towards the Local Superheroes badge, which encourages young people to learn about and celebrate the everyday heroes in their communities.

By meeting firefighters and hearing more about their work, Squirrels were able to better understand the dedication, teamwork and responsibility involved in helping others.

Experiences like this help young people connect their learning with real-world examples, while building curiosity and confidence along the way.
