Adventure and fun at Harrogate and Nidderdale District Activity Day
Young people from the 15th Harrogate Scout Group, the Squirrels section, enjoyed a day packed with adventure as they took part in the Harrogate and Nidderdale District Activity Day.
The event gave Squirrels the chance to step outside their comfort zones, try something new and experience a wide range of exciting activities in the great outdoors. Throughout the day, they tackled everything from tree climbing and archery to tomahawk throwing and crossbow shooting, all under the guidance of trained volunteers.
There were plenty of opportunities to build confidence and develop new skills, with the Squirrels also taking on the night line and testing their balance on the slack line. After a busy day of adventure, they gathered around the campfire to enjoy toasted s’mores and share stories from the day’s activities.
Events like the Harrogate and Nidderdale District Activity Day give young people the opportunity to discover what they are capable of while making new friends, working as a team and creating lasting memories.
One Squirrel said: “This was the best day ever!”
Another Squirrel said: “I didn’t think I could do it but I did!”
A huge thank you goes to all of the volunteers who helped organise and deliver another fantastic day of adventure. Their dedication ensures young people across North Yorkshire continue to enjoy experiences that help them develop skills for life.
One of the Squirrel’s parents said: “Inclusion at its best. My child was able to access all of the activities as volunteers adapted them as needed.
Judging by the smiles on everyone’s faces, it is safe to say the 15th Harrogate Squirrels had a brilliant day and will be looking forward to their next adventure.
