Vikings Explorers make a splash at Ellerton Water Park
Vikings Explorer Scout Unit, part of Upper Nidderdale Scout Group, spent the weekend at Ellerton Water Park, enjoying new experiences, plenty of laughter and, unsurprisingly, getting very wet!
It was the first time the unit had organised a weekend like this, and for some of the Explorers, it was their first time taking part in water-based activities.
The group had the chance to try a range of water sports, while also enjoying time together back at camp. From getting stuck into new activities to cheering on their friends, there was something for everyone.
For one Explorer, being on the water wasn’t quite their thing, but that didn’t stop them from having a brilliant weekend.
They said: “It was really fun. I didn’t do many activities because I don’t like the water much, but I still had a great time watching my friends on the water, spending time with them and helping out around camp.”
The weekend was a great example of how activities like this can give young people the chance to try something new, while still allowing everyone to take part in a way that suits them.
The unit’s lead volunteer said: “It was amazing to see so many of our young people being able to try out such a wide range of water sports in just one weekend.
“The team at Ellerton are fantastic, the campsite has everything we needed and there are great facilities nearby, including large supermarkets, for anything you may have forgotten to bring!”
With plenty of new experiences under their belts, Vikings Explorers returned home with lots of stories to tell, new memories to share and hopefully a little less water in their clothes!
