yle Valley Scout Group enjoyed a special visit to Easingwold Library on Tuesday, 3 March, to celebrate World Book Day.
The library opened its doors just for the Squirrels and Beavers, giving them a chance to explore books and learn how libraries work.
The Squirrels were first to take part in the visit. During their session, Wendy from the library team read one of her favourite stories and spoke to the group about how books can make people feel and the adventures they can take readers on. Afterwards, the young people had the chance to browse the shelves and choose books to take home and enjoy with their families.
It was great meeting the amazing volunteers who help run the Library. They made it so enjoyable for all the Squirrels and Beavers and supported us with our badge work. I would definitely encourage others to visit their local library too.” Hedgehog
The Beavers then began their visit with a fun emoji book title quiz, challenging them to guess popular stories from a series of emoji clues. After the quiz, they gathered together to listen to a story, and then Wendy explained how books are sorted and cared for in the library. The Beavers were then invited to explore the library on their own, selecting books and chatting with members of the library staff.
The visit gave the young people a chance to learn more about reading, storytelling and how libraries help communities discover new books and ideas.
The library visit ended with everyone inspired to read and share books together.
