2nd St Thomas (York) Scout Group proudly hosted the Rama Awards, as part of their AGM in June, celebrating outstanding young people within their Scouting community.

The Rama Awards recognise young people who consistently go above and beyond to embody the values of Scouting, from service and leadership to resilience and personal growth. Nominations were submitted by the leadership teams, highlighting young people whose contributions have made a real difference to their section and wider community.   Winners were then selected by an external jury drawn from the group’s extended Scouting family, ensuring an inclusive and thoughtful decision-making process.

Some of the award holders included Benny, who received Young Person of the Year for always setting a shining example as a young leader at Beavers and Cubs, as well as for being so welcoming to new Scouts in the troop. The Mentorship and Friendship Award was presented to Cub Scout Borys, for building a strong team ethos in his Six and for climbing Ben Nevis to raise funds for the group. Beaver Scout Matteo received the Growth of Character Award for his positive attitude and personal growth since joining the colony earlier in the year. The Golden Rama Award was presented to Joy and Nina, for their brilliant fundraising efforts in making and selling jewellery, which has helped fund places for the Scouts to attend Ignite in September.

Tom Mann, Group Lead Volunteer said “The Rama Awards have proven to be a fantastic way of celebrating our Young People who, often very quietly, live out the Scout Values and do their best week in and week out. They’re named after one of my predecessors, Chris Leach, so it reflects on the past while also celebrating the present and future of our group. We are so proud of all our young people.”
