Rishi Sunak Celebrates Young People’s Achievements at North Hambleton Scouts Awards
Young people from North Hambleton District came together with their families, volunteers and community leaders for a special awards celebration at East Harlsey Village Hall.
The event marked the District’s first awards day since 2019, making it an especially meaningful occasion for everyone involved. After several years of growth and renewed momentum across local groups, it provided a welcome opportunity to recognise the dedication and achievements of young people from across North Hambleton.

Around 30 young people were presented with a range of awards, including Chief Scout’s Bronze and Silver Awards and Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards. These nationally recognised awards reflect significant commitment. Each one represents hours spent learning new skills, supporting local communities, developing leadership qualities and pushing beyond personal comfort zones.
Among the guests was local MP Rishi Sunak, who met award recipients and spoke with volunteers about the positive impact youth programmes continue to have across the area. Also in attendance was Jo Ropner, County President of North Yorkshire Scouts, and His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant
District Lead Volunteer Mark Turner described the celebration as a proud moment for North Hambleton, recognising not only the achievements of the young people but also the dedication of the volunteers and families who support them.
North Hambleton District continues to provide inclusive opportunities for young people across the region to gain skills for life, make new friends, and play an active role within their communities. Events such as this awards day highlight the positive difference these programmes make, not just for individuals, but for the wider community as a whole.
