York Squirrel Scouts Volunteer celebrates her 80th birthday!

Louise Robinson stepped up to be a Scouts volunteer in Dringhouses when The Scouts launched their brand-new offering for 4 & 5 year olds in 2022 – Squirrel Scouts!

Louise is one of the oldest active Scouts volunteers in North Yorkshire, still spending her volunteering time supporting weekly sessions. Each week, Louise and her fellow volunteers run a programme packed with outdoors activities, fun, games, badges, laughter, and so much more to help our youngest members learn the skills they need for life. Although reaching the spritely age of 80, her enthusiasm and drive for supporting young people is contagious amongst the other Scouts leaders!

In addition to supporting Squirrel Scouts every week, at last month’s Dringhouses Scouts’ Annual Volunteer Celebration Dinner, Louise and her husband, Roy prepared and cooked a huge 3-course feast for over 50 Scouts volunteers!

As well as supporting The Scouts, Louise is involved in many community roles with St Edward’s Church in Dringhouses. She prepares food and serves lunches for Easter Sunday, Harvest, and Christmas, plans and oversees the ushers during weekly Sunday services, and despite her hectic schedule, manages to fit in serving as the Women’s Fellowship and Premises Committee Chair. She also arranges social events for the elderly Dringhouses community – most recently taking 12 parishioners to the Bradford pantomime!

Thank you to Louise for everything you do to support our incredible young people to gain skills for life!

With over 2000 adults volunteering across North Yorkshire, there is a role for everyone at The Scouts – no matter what age, gender, or ability! If you would like to learn more about how volunteering with The Scouts is #goodforyou visit scouts.org.uk
