Unit 51 WSJ begins their World Scout Jamboree journey.

A few weekends ago (23–25 January), it was lovely to see Unit 51 WSJ come together for the very first time at Kettleness Scout Centre, near Whitby. For many of the young people, this was their first opportunity to meet properly as a unit and begin what will be an exciting journey towards the World Scout Jamboree next Summer!

The weekend was carefully planned to help everyone feel comfortable, included and part of the team. Through a mix of fun, hands-on activities and shared experiences, the group spent time getting to know one another, working together and building confidence. From team challenges and cooking meals together to creative activities like making cake landmarks, there was plenty of laughter alongside learning.

There was also space for important conversations. The unit worked together to shape their identity, talk through fundraising ideas and agree on a shared code of conduct. These discussions helped set clear expectations while encouraging respect, responsibility and teamwork, values that will be important throughout their Jamboree journey.

It was a positive and encouraging start, full of enthusiasm and cooperation, and a great opportunity for friendships to begin forming. The weekend laid strong foundations and gave the young people a sense of belonging as they move forward together.

North Yorkshire Scouts are looking forward to supporting Unit 51 WSJ as they continue their preparations and take the next steps on this exciting adventure.
