Welcome 1st Filey Cub Pack!
After almost twenty years, Scouting has made an exciting return to Filey with the official launch of the 1st Filey Scout Group. The event, held on Friday 23 May 2025, marked a new chapter in the town’s Scouting story as the first members were invested.
The group currently offers Squirrel Scouts (ages 4–6) and Beaver Scouts (ages 6–8) – th

e first time these sections have ever been available in Filey – and has already sparked great interest among local families. The launch event was a lively community celebration, with families, volunteers, and local dignitaries coming together to mark this historic moment. Guests included Filey’s Mayor, Councillor Jacqui Houlden-Banks, and town crier, David Bull.
Tiffany Wilkinson, Filey’s first-ever Squirrel Scout Team Leader, led the evening’s activities, which featured games, cake, and the official investiture of the new members. Reflecting on the occasion, Tiffany said:
“We are thrilled to welcome the first Squirrels and Beavers to Filey’s new Scout Group. There’s a real sense of excitement and enthusiasm in the community, and we can’t wait to see the young people grow, learn, and have fun with us.”
Steven Broadbent, Scarborough and District Lead Volunteer, also shared his enthusiasm:
“The return of Scouting to Filey is an exciting milestone, not just for the young people who will now have the opportunity to be Scouts, but for the whole town. We’re incredibly proud to be part of this new chapter and can’t wait to see how this group helps shape the leaders of tomorrow.”
Filey’s Scouting roots date back 100 years to 1925, and although the movement paused in the early 2000s, the community is proud to see it revived once again.
The 1st Filey Scout Group meets at St John’s Church on West Avenue, providing a warm and welcoming space for their activities. The group is looking for more families to join and volunteers to support future events. Anyone interested in getting involved can visit scouts.org.uk or email fileyscoutgroup@hotmail.com.
With such a strong start, the 1st Filey Scout Group looks set to build a lasting legacy, inspiring friendship, leadership, and community spirit for generations to come
