An update to our District Boundaries
We’ve made some changes to how the County is structured!

As some of you may be aware, the County has been going through a strategic review of its Districts as a result of a boundary review commissioned by the Board of Trustees.
I am delighted to announce a few changes to our boundaries that will help ensure our District structures are fit for Scouting now, and in the future.
North Hambleton District has grown to include the communities of Knayton and Masham. This has increased the number of Groups led by Mark Turner and the team to nine.
Galtres District (formally known as Easingwold) now covers the South Hambleton area, growing to include the greater-Thirsk area and Boroughbridge. Increasing the number of Scout Groups led by Kevin Wilson and the team in Galtres, will enable the District Team to deliver more events, provide more support to Groups, and to ensure more young people have access to Scouting in the communities across South Hambleton.
Harrogate and Nidderdale has grown to include Ripon, meaning the area covered by Karsten Hartmann and his District Team largely mirrors the former Harrogate Borough boundary.
In York, we have set up a brand-new District that mirrors the boundaries of City of York Council. Our new City of York District will be led by Nigel White, with Scouts Groups supported via three Area Leads covering the north, east, and west of the City. These will be led by David Ingledew, Annie Hodgson, and Becky Lincoln respectively.
All of our Groups have now moved to their new homes and are settling in well. With three Districts growing slightly in number and our City of York District being established, York Ebor, York Minster, and Ripon Districts are now moving through the steps prescribed in POR to close. A charity known as ‘The York Joint Scout Trust’ (which looked after Snowball Plantation on behalf of Ebor and Minster) has also closed, with its responsibilities passed to City of York’s Trustee Board and District Leadership Team.
Therefore, we have now adjusted the number of Districts in North Yorkshire from 12 to 10, ultimately reducing the number of leadership team members and trustees required to lead and govern Scouting. As a result we are freeing up more volunteers (and their time!) to support Scout Groups and sections.
I would like to thank all 32 Scout Groups who have moved through this administrative change for their continued professionalism and willingness to get involved in their new District Teams. It has genuinely been brilliant to see Groups getting behind the project and supporting the County to make this transition as seamless as possible. Thank you to Karsten, Mark, Kevin, and Nigel for creating a welcoming environment for the groups joining Harrogate & Nidderdale, North Hambleton, Galtres, and City of York. Thank you also to Sharon Dawson, Mark Edwards, Phil Bennett, and Hannah Eustace for their support with developing and leading this comprehensive change programme.
