Beaver Scouts (6-8)

Young people can join Beaver Scouts in the three months leading up to their sixth birthday. They can move to the next Section, Cub Scouts, between seven years and six months and eight years six months.

Beavers are easily recognised by their distinctive turquoise sweatshirts. They usually meet once a week in a Beaver Scout Colony. Their activities are based around making things, outdoor activities, singing, playing games, going out on visits, investigating nature, listening to stories, learning how to be safe and most importantly, making new friends.

Some Beaver Scout Colonies also organise Sleepovers. These are often the first time a young person spends a night away from home and they are exciting chance to develop adventure and independence.

The first step to becoming a Beaver is to find your nearest Pack using our finder tool. Membership is managed locally, so the easiest way to get started is to reach out to a local adult volunteer to see if spaces are available and find out more about where and when the group meets.

Beavers is open to all, and adjustments can always be made locally to make sure everyone can join in the fun. If you have any questions about accessibility, it’s best to chat with your local leader as soon as possible. By being upfront about additional needs from the start, parents/carers can work in partnership with local leaders to make sure their young person has the best experience possible.
